My working trip to Saudi Arabia - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

My working outing to Saudi Arabia This won't be my standard blog entry with guidance on quest for new employment or talking. Ive had many individuals get some information about my ongoing outing to Saudi Arabia, so I thought Id compose a little blog entry about it! In mid January I got drew closer by a riches support in Saudi Arabia to do talk with preparing for their scouts. Theyve discovered me on LinkedIn just demonstrates that being obvious and offering some incentive reliably pays off! I at first idea that perhaps somebody has suggested me I really had two or three customers from Saudi Arabia previously. Be that as it may, no, the HR individual has quite recently truly discovered me on LinkedIn, which was v. energizing! It took half a month of messages to concur the substance, they additionally needed to get references from my past customers, we needed to sort our my visa, flights and so forth and it was at long last an ideal opportunity to fly last Saturday. I was somewhat uncertain about going to Saudi Arabia after all there are a great deal of severe principles there. The Islamic law is carefully implemented, you cannot accepting liquor anyplace (not authoritatively at any rate); electronic gadgets might be screened by customs authorities on appearance, ladies are not permitted to drive and so forth. At the point when I attempted to book a spa treatment in my lodging, I was told the spa is for men as it were Ladies additionally need to wear traditionalist, baggy garments just as a full length shroud (abaya) and a headscarf. Men ought not wear shorts out in the open. I additionally had no clue about what's in store from a gathering I should prepare. Would they be open and responsive to preparing? The time had come to discover. I was fortunate the association has booked business class trips for me it was absolutely better than going with RyanAir:- ) I began with a free breakfast in the business parlor of Qatar Airways at Heathrow: The flight was excessively unwinding because of my level bed, astonishing food and champagne on request in truth I felt like after a visit to the spa (short the back rub:- ) I put in a couple of hours dozing and perusing. I traveled to Doha first and needed to hold up a couple of hours to my trip to Riyadh as they needed to change the airplane. I couldnt hold back to wear my pretty abaya (acquired from a companion), so I put it on while unwinding in the First Class relax:- ) The driver got me soon after 12 PM and took me to my lodging. After only a couple of long periods of rest, the time had come to do the primary half day of my instructional meeting and I was headed to the zone where a great deal of other universal firms like Cisco have their workplaces. The gathering was awesome inviting, exceptionally open and 4 hours just flew by. We secured kinds of meetings, how to get ready and how to structure them, how to telephone screen successfully and how to recognize A-Players in a prospective employee meet-up. There were a couple of enrollment specialists with various degrees of experience, all spoke great English and a couple worked or concentrated in the UK. After the preparation, the time had come to see the city. The driver at that point took me to authentic piece of Riyadh Diriyah, where I strolled around for a piece. Preceding going to Riyadh, I was advised ladies arent permitted to stroll all alone, yet this wasnt the case and my new Saudi partners have guaranteed me it was alright to investigate that piece of the city all alone. I additionally needed to see the Ritz, as it looked staggering on the photos Ive seen on the web. I wasnt frustrated, the lodging was dazzling! Indeed, even at the Ritz, there is a different area for men in particular, and another for ladies and families. The staff was incredible however and we made them intrigue visits. There are a great deal of Indian and Pakistani laborers there, as they can acquire far beyond in their own nations. For instance, one of the Ritzs laborers was on 2000 SAR per month (around 430 GBP/530 USD) which probably won't be a significant pay in Riyadh, yet it is much more than what hed have earned back home. I later heard that you can acquire 4x more than what youd win in your own nation and your lodging is regularly paid for. The laws are clearly extremely prohibitive, yet the upside is the crime percentage is low and individuals Ive met positively didnt look abused. They talked great English, a couple worked or concentrated abroad and they were extremely amicable. One woman from my gathering got her Masters qualification in the UK she despite everything chose to come back to Saudi following 8 years in the UK. At the point when I returned to my lodging that night (utilizing my Uber application!:- ) and I was accomplishing some work, I saw a message from one of my LinkedIn associations. She lives in Riyadh, saw my announcement about going there to work, and recommended we get together, so we organized to meet the following day. The second day of preparing was incredible too we did a ton of pretends and the gathering was content with the preparation. Here is one image of us all: After the second day of my preparation, we went for (non-alcoholic obviously!) mixed drinks at the Four Seasons lodging by the pool, where we had an extraordinary evening time visiting in the sun. A couple of hours after the fact, the time had come to fly back to London. I am going to miss flying business class now:- ) It was such a staggering outing and Id love the chance to have the option to accomplish some more work in the Middle East later on. Expectation youve appreciated finding out about my little experience:- ) Feel allowed to leave me a remark beneath.

They just speak to installment early of a segment of your future income. In the event that you don't sell, you're not any more secure on pay than on commission. The best s ales reps love straight commission since they realize they get each dollar that is coming to them and that their pay is totally in their control. Be that as it may, straight commission isn't handy in the event that you can't make deals immediately. At the point when the business cycle is long, straight commission is conventionally not workable.Negotiating tip: See in the event that you can get the commission rate expanded or layered (expanded at specific time periods commission Same as straight commission, however the rate goes up or down contingent upon deals conditions. You may be paid a higher commission on new records, on bigger deals or on absolute volume over a certain amount.Negotiating tip: An expansion in commission rate for top execution can be rewarding and motivating.Draw against commission Likewise straight commission, with the exception of the business lets you draw a specific measure of cash each payroll interval to assist you with beginning. So on the off chance that you have a $3,000 draw and you make just $2,000 in commissions, you would get a check for $3,000 and pay the organization $1,000 retreat from future income. Most draws are trivial, which implies that if the activity isn't working out you could stop and not need to take care of any cash you owed the organization. Draws may last inconclusively or for a predetermined number of weeks or months, and the draw itself might be diminished or expanded over time.Negotiating tip: Do look at this, and arrange it as no recompense on the off chance that you can.Advance against commission Like a draw, yet it is typically an intermittent, as opposed to a nonstop, occasion. It ordinarily won't surpass the measure of commissions previously earned.Negotiating tip: Try to get a development in the event that they're not ready to give you a base and you need more cash to cover your life costs while on the job.Base in addition to commission This is equivalent to 'pay in addition to commission.' Here the organization pays you a specific compensation, called your base. That is all yours and depend on. Over that, the organization gives you a commission as per a commonly settled upon recipe. Most deals bunches utilize this blend. The more drawn out the business cycle, the higher the base needs to be.Negotiating tip: Base compensation first, at that point commission rates and tiers.Salary A few deals employments pay a straight pay; no commission. These occupations quite often accompany rewards. If not, you can attempt to arrange one. A few organizations like to promote no weight â€" our sales reps are not on commission, they are there to support you. As referenced over, all business occupations â€" all employments so far as that is concerned â€" are at last straight commission. So a compensation may ease the heat off any individual deal, yet have confidence you need to gain your keep.Negotiating tip: Follow the typical pay arranging rules.Salary and reward A reward is a one-time installment of a fixed measure of cash for accomplishing a specific volume of deals. It could be a week by week, month to month, quarterly or even yearly reward - or a reward that naturally kicks in when you arrive at your goal.Negotiating tip: Bonuses as a rule must be uniform over the business power, however you can at present attempt to arrange it higher â€" there's nothing to lose in asking.Residual commission This is a sort of commission that continues paying regardless of whether you quit the organization. In protection deals, for example, after you've been with the organization for a specific time span, you're entitled, for a while, to a commission on the installments customers make to the strategies you sold them whether you work for the organization any longer. When your business work includes a great deal of new-account age, you would be insightful to arrange a remaining commission on those new records. The legitimization here is that the compensation for selling the record has a place with you; after you leave and the record is kept up, a segment of the pay should at present be yours for a while.Negotiating tip: Negotiate both the commission rate and the duration.Watch out! Try not to get cheated out of your bonuses when you leave. One of the most widely recognized, however avoidable, incidents in arranging deals commissions isn't in effect clear about what happens when you leave the company.Whatever your bonus structure is, ensure you get clear precisely how commissions and pay are dealt with when you leave the company. What deals do you get paid on, and when is the installment due? Frequently, commissions are payable when the customer pays, not when the customer is charged. Those installments may slack a while after the deal is made. Get it recorded as a hard copy now, when you start. You would prefer not to face this conflict when you're gone; you'd lose. So, when the pay isn't adequate, arrange a draw, a knock in commission, a presentation reward or residuals. There are bunches of approaches to improve an offer.

Ensure a Good Future In The Insurance Industry

Ensure a Good Future In The Insurance Industry Source: CareerProNews What would happen if the sewer system in your town backed up and your home was covered with a foot of muck? Or what if someone snipped through your lock and rode off with your bike? Thanks to the insurance industry, you probably wouldnt have much to worry about. Insurance is designed to cover these types of losses. The insurance industry is huge. Doctors, lawyers, actuaries, computer experts and public speakers are just a few of the talented individuals who come together to make the industry tick. No matter what your skills are, the insurance industry is a viable career option. Insurance can mean so many things, says Heather Clowater. She is an assistant manager of human resources at a group of insurance companies. Our market is the high-end client the $2-million home, the yacht and the jewelry collection, she says. But wealthy people arent the only clients in the insurance business. Churches, homes, people, cars, bicycles, clothing all of these things are insurable. Insurance works like this: everyone pays a little to cover the losses of a few. The money (premiums) goes into a big pot at the insurance company. When someone suffers a loss, they are able to take money from the pot to recover what theyve lost. Remember the Y2K millennium bug at the turn of the century? According to Phillips Nizer Benjamin Krim and Ballon (a law firm), Nike attempted to claim as much as $110 million in insurance for the costs of fixing up the Y2K mess. If it werent for insurance, companies like Nike would have been forced to fork out millions of dollars. Insurance is Here to Stay The insurance industry has a bad rap for being boring. Trudy Lancelyn is the deputy executive director of the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia. She points out that its a very traditional industry. Theres been insurance for hundreds of years and there always will be, she says. Its not something that goes through fads. Unlike some high-tech industries, the insurance industry isnt grabbing the worlds attention. It is, however, a stable industry. And its here to stay. Insurance is one of those products that is not so volatile, says Clowater. Everyone needs insurance. Clowaters company is a prime example of just how stable this industry is. Its been around since the 1880s and its still growing at a steady pace. This year alone, we hired 10 or 11 trainees, says Clowater. So, certainly we are growing. The insurance industry needs workers with hundreds of different talents and specialties to make it run smoothly. Clowaters firm, for example, has an accounting department, a collections department, a customer service department and an IT department. Just imagine how many different skill sets are called upon in each of those separate departments! Here are just a few of the titles that insurance employees may hold: actuary, actuarial assistant, case manager, underwriter, broker, casualty adjuster, customer service rep, sales rep, marketing rep and auditor. Since the industry experiences steady growth, there is always a well-rounded selection of jobs available. Our vacancy positions [are] across the board, says Clowater. Its not just underwriting or claims or IT jobs. This is a very traditional, pen-and-paper industry, although Lancely says that there are IT positions available. Like anything else, she says, the large, multi-branch brokerages would probably have an in-house IT person. But there certainly isnt a wild cry for IT experts in the world of insurance. Getting There Since the insurance industry is so diverse, there isnt a standard educational pathway for getting involved. It depends on the company you work for, the state or province youre working in and the position youre after. In fact, Clowater believes that this lack of structure may be the biggest stumbling block for students the career path simply isnt straightforward. For anyone who is going to get into actuarial sciences, there are undergraduate programs out there, says Gretchen Schaefer. She is the media relations director for the American Insurance Association. She adds that actuaries take courses and classes throughout their careers. Its just an ongoing education. For anyone becoming an insurance agent, there are licensing requirements. These differ from state to state. In some cases, a generalist background combined with a pleasant demeanor is all youll need. For example, the human resources department at Clowaters company isnt necessarily looking for someone with an insurance background. Were just looking for someone that has a general business background or a university degree, explains Clowater. Take Schaefers background, for example. I had a communications and marketing background, she says. It was enough to get her foot in the door. Its really a matter of learning the industry, she says. Once youre in the industry, there is no shortage of certificates or professional examinations that you can obtain to improve your status, ability and wage. For certain positions, like actuary, youll be expected to upgrade your qualifications continually. Clowater encourages young people to stop and think about just how huge the insurance business really is. Whatever your interests are, think of it as an option. If you have any doubts at all, pay a visit to a local insurance company. See if you like the atmosphere and start making your connections. There is a lot to learn. Its a very interesting industry, says Schaefer. Net Sites American Insurance Association A great source for industry info http://www.aiadc.org/ Insurance National Search, Inc. The Importance of having Career goals and objectives - Freesumes

The Importance of having Career goals and objectives The Importance of having Career goals and objectives To be successful in your career it is very important to set yourself some short-term and long-term career goals and career objectives. This isnt as complicated as it sounds. In fact, without realizing it, everyone sets themselves goals to achieve every day. OK, these may only be small or minor goals such as remembering to pay a bill, tidy up the desk, or to complete a work project, but they are goals all the same.   Setting yourself clear goals can highly improve your job satisfaction at work as well as your career progression. Lets take a closer look at why having goals are important. When it comes to working out your career goals, you need to take some time to really think about what you want to achieve in life. Do you want an increase in your earnings, a move up the career ladder, or a change in occupation? Asking yourself where you would like to be in five or ten years time is a good starting point. This will enable you to work backwards and plan for more short-term, smaller and more achievable goals with an objective to using these as tools or stepping stones towards your five or ten year target. There are three things to focus on here: Your career goals; Your objectives; and your accountability.Creating Career GoalsLong term and short term goal setting is incredibly important to career advancement. The benefits of setting a career goal gives you something to work towards achieving, but it spurs you on to take the necessary steps needed to fulfill your long-term ambitions. When setting up your career goals, be careful not to bite off more than you can chew. Set yourself smaller goals that can be spread out daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. This way you will not become overwhelmed by trying to achieve too much at once and potentially suffering a career set-back should you fail to meet your goals. It is very easy to say I want to double my salary in five years time, but achieving that goal can be made much more difficult if you try to take on too much too soon. Having a formula planned out with achievable goals set at regular intervals will be a much more significant step to take to be able to achieve those goals while experiencing great satisfaction along the way.Creating ObjectivesA good way to map out your future career is to create objectives for yourself. By knowing what direction and steps you need to take in life over the foreseeable future will keep you ahead of the curve. Setting objectives will prevent you from going forward in an aimless direction and will make you stop and think carefully before taking up opportunities that are not quite right for your long-term goals. Taking up a job offer that doesnt tick all your objective boxes can cause your career to stagnate, or may de-rail your career progression and send you completely down the wrong career path. Setting objectives for yourself will enable you to focus all your energy into pursuing more meaningful career opportunities through industry specific training and ed ucation, as well as keeping yourself motivated along the way. By creating and accomplishing small steps one at a time, you will be consistently working towards your end goal, but you will also be more productive and motivated along this path to complete these tasks because you have a firm career goal in mind.Creating AccountabilityHaving career goals is one thing, but actually taking the necessary steps to reach them is another. You may sit and imagine yourself working in your dream job, but unless you actually take those physical steps to reach your goal, a dream is all it will ever be. Unless you can hold yourself accountable for your actions, nothing will get done, no matter how many objectives you have and how much planning you put in place.By becoming accountable for what you do, and remembering to praising yourself once you have finished a set-task, you can get great satisfaction from being another step closer to your dream job. This in itself can be extremely motivating and w ill encourage you to take the next step, then the next step, and so on.You can start off creating accountability for yourself by setting an achievable goal, such as enrolling on a work-related training course, and taking on the responsibility to complete the course within a certain time-frame or by a specific deadline date. Being accountable is a really positive strength to have. It shows potential new employers exactly what you are made of and that you are able to get things done without any fuss or procrastination.Taking the time to plan out your short-term and long-term career goals in achievable steps will help you to fulfill your career ambitions. previous article

The cons: There are some folks who accept this makes the recruiting experience excessively indifferent. Remember that a few competitors want to check the air of the workplace directly off the bat, rather than sitting tight for a second or third round meeting to come in and figure out the way of life and condition. Along these lines, consider demonstrating candidates these components through video clasps and worker remarks all through the procedure. Inquiries to pose to when actualizing selecting innovation Despite the sort of innovation you're thinking about utilizing, there are a couple of inquiries that all enrollment specialists and employing administrators should consider so as to confirm that these devices are serving the brand appropriately. These include: Is it simple for possibility to utilize this bit of selecting innovation? On the off chance that the framework works impeccably for the individual directing the meetings however is a bad dream for the one going after the position, you'll need to consider whether it merits executing by any stretch of the imagination. Bulky, strange innovation can bring down the quantity of utilizations you get, as intrigued people don't have the opportunity or persistence to battle the innovation so as to present their materials. Befuddling stages will likewise totally demolish any shot you have at getting latent contender to apply. They weren't urgent for a new position in any case, however in the event that they see the procedure is disappointing, at that point they'll unquestionably pass. In this manner, evaluate convenience from both the employing supervisor's and the applicant's perspective. Does it make the recruiting procedure appear to be less human? Enrolling innovation is exceptionally valuable with regards to a sped up and sorted out recruiting process. Nonetheless, on the off chance that you start to depend on it too vigorously, the procedure can start to feel generic. In the event that everything all the way is made out of robotized messages and video interviews, potential new colleagues may start to think about whether you really have genuine individuals working at your business. To counterbalance this, think about creation individual contact at a few focuses all through the procedure. You should get the telephone and call the possibility to welcome them in for a second round meeting, or maybe send a customized email to clarify that you're welcoming them to do a video meet. It appears to be little, yet wandering ceaselessly from PC produced content now and again includes warmth and character, assisting with showing what your image is about. Take a Spin and a Splash on the Hydro Bike

Take a Spin and a Splash on the Hydro Bike Take a Spin and a Splash on the Hydro Bike Take a Spin and a Splash on the Hydro Bike In 2011, Guy Howard-Willis had the insane plan to make a bicycle that could surf on water. Seven years of testing and prototyping brought about the Hydrofoiler XE-1, which is a blend between an e-bicycle, surfboard, and hydrofoil. Howard-Willis and his accomplice, Roland Alonzo, consider their contraption a hydrofoiler bicycle watercraft. When remaining on the ground, it takes after a fixed bicycle utilized in rec centers. Its not as overwhelming as a water bike, and travels on water helped by a pedal and a 400 W e-bicycle engine. An unmoving hydrofoil bicycle can lower a couple of feet without sinking so it very well may be restarted without a rider swimming to shore. The bicycle is totally modularthe segments that can be changed to adjust force or lightness can be added to the XE-1 model.Guy Howard-Willis Joining pedal force and an electric engine, The Hydrofoiler XE-1 is a blend between an e-bicycle, surfboard, and hydrofoil. Picture: Manta5 At the point when I ride the Hydrofoiler, I can attract similitudes to riding my street bicycles. The issue was around keeps an eye on capacity on water, we have such huge numbers of incredible watercraft out there, I needed to push the envelope on what should be possible for bike and water aficionados, Howard-Willis said. For You: Read ASME.orgs most recent on assembling and plan. Alonzo and Howard-Willis sell the Hydrofoiler XE-1 through Waikato, New Zealand-based Manta5, and at generally $5,500, its not modest. Hydrofoils began showing up in water sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing 10 years back, and that is when Howard-Willis began examining the thought. A sharp cyclist, he thought about Hydrofoiler XE-1 subsequent to seeing hydrofoils being utilized in the Americas Cup yachting race. He at that point snared with Alonzo, a bicycle structure expert. For the initial two years, both concealed the possibility of Hydrofoiler XE-1 from their families, more to get away from humiliation if the structure didnt work out. Numerous years were spent drafting and structuring models with various part types. They applied fast approval, with new segments and parts being quickly tried. They handled hydrodynamics, streamlined features, electrical, and mechanical difficulties, and the littler picture approach gave them structure adaptability. We spent early mornings at neighborhood pools and lakes approving with various eager riders. That is a key piece of our creation procedure, we generally hold our thoughts gently and we have a domain where everyones contemplations are esteemed and thought of, Howard-Willis said. Basic segments like the e-bicycle battery and engine profited gigantically from these testing meetings. Battery life is about an hour for a 187 pound individual, Manta5 gauges. The XE-1 is pedal help that implies you do need to pedal for this model to push ahead. In any case, you can dial up the measure of work the engine is doing, so you may get a kick out of the chance to journey and you would likewise have the engine at a high rate and be doing less accelerating, Howard-Willis said. The specialists executed a streamlined plan, and worked out complexities identified with hydrofoiling and propeller situating. Work likewise went into building up a drivetrain system that moved force from the pedals to the propeller. An aluminum and carbon fiber outline cut the weight down, and a nylon propeller gave push at the quickest speeds. The water bicycle takes a shot at salt and new water. The bicycle is totally modularthe segments that can be changed to adjust force or lightness can be added to the XE-1 model, Howard-Willis said. What do you really, really want #rethink

What do you really, really want #rethink A few years ago I was invited to speak at an event in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Charlotte was beyond charming, and I loved every minute of it there.  The people were over-the-top nice. On the morning of my presentation, my ride picked me up and we drove towards the event center.  She explained that Charlotte was a huge financial/banking hub, and if I remember correctly, second in importance to Wall Street.  I didnt realize how big and important this little town was. We drove through the downtown area, surrounded by majestic buildings that were more beautiful than overwhelming (like New York or Chicago or San Francisco), and something stood out: the people looked grumpy. Maybe they looked grumpy because of how early it was in the day.  Maybe they just had their game face on, and were thinking about all of the things they were going to do. Whatever the reason was, I was struck by the contrast between these well-dressed, job-ful people, and the hundred or so unemployed professionals I would be meeting in a few minutes. Speaking of contrast when I walked into the event center I was greeted by loud talking, laughing, smiles, and apparently happy people.  Of course, I know that many of those people were in the midst of their own battles, and the unwritten rule of going to job clubs was that you had to bring a smiley face and a cheerful attitude, but at no point did I feel that any of their smiles or laughing was not authentic. Contrast.  Grumpy unhappy people with jobs vs. happy, smiling people who wanted jobs.   Why is that? When I was in my own job search, it was a time of self-reflection and recalibration.  Im not saying I was happier unemployed, but I was able to get grounded, instead of running a thousand miles an hour for someone else.  Im not saying that people who are unemployed dont worry about paying their rent, mortgage or grocery bills but perhaps theres something that happens when you get some time FOR YOURSELF, think about who you are, and what really matters. When you get to (or, are forced to) start over, and you can now pick a career path, do you go after more money, even if it means going into a high stress situation that you dont like, working with people you dont like, for a boss you dont like?  Or do you start to think Hm maybe we change our lifestyle a bit, and I can do something with purpose maybe even something that will impact peoples lives? I know that in a job search you feel like you are drowning, and its unfair to suggest that this is a good or special time. What I saw in Charlotte, though, was people who were able to see beyond the drowning, and love and enjoy and live, instead of the employed people probably making six figures, who looked like they would have rather been in the event center where I was, with a bunch of happy people.
