Most of us today have jobs that are high on brain activity and low on physical activity not good. A body is more than that thing, that carries my head from one meeting to the next, and the state of your body is vital for your physical well-being and for your creativity and energy. So today, do what you would normally do but move your body while you do it. Walk around a little while talking on the phone. Have a stand-up meeting. Sit as little as possible. Walk over to talk to colleagues, instead of emailing or phoning. Basically use every chance you get to activate your body. Notice how it feels and how this may actually make you less tired both mentally and physically than sitting passively in your chair all day. My job often requires me to get input from someone who is higher up than me in order to complete my work tickets. Usually, I need a quick answer to a question or two. However, he is very social and it seems like he is always chatting with someone, both work-related and a lot of chat about his kids/weekend/etc. When I need to talk to him, usually I just stand at a distance until he acknowledges me, and then I tell him I have a question and offer to come back at another time if he is busy. I feel less bad about it when he is going on about sports or whatever. It seems like instant messages would be perfect for a situation like this, but when I try this there is about a 50/50 chance of getting a response. He has never has responded to my emails. The other thing you can do is to ask him during a moment when heâs more free how heâd like you to handle this. For example: âIâm never quite sure if it itâs okay for me to interrupt you when I have something I need your input on. Is it okay for me to keep doing that, or would you like me to handle it differently?â (Although since this is someone who has never responded to an email from you, this might not be worth asking â" because if he says âtry emailing me,â youâre not going to want to actually follow that suggestion. Get ready to have all of your burning questions answeredQ Tell us about your professional backgroundA I am a software developer/engineer with seven years experience as an engineer for Microsoft. After that, I spent about four years consulting and working on my own ecommerce startup.Q You recently accepted a job at anotlageher Big Four company, correct? How does your job search usually work?A Yes. Ive had two real job searches in my life once in 200 5 and this year. They were very different experiences since I was just coming out of school in 2005. This time, about half the jobs came through referrals from friends, which works well in the software world, about 40% came from Hire.com and similar curated recruiting services, and 10% came from reaching out directly to companies.Q What has been the hardest part of each job search experience?A I didnt know what I was doing in 2005, so that was obviously difficult. It was easier this time around because I have experience. Plus, software development is a totally different industry now since fruchtwein industries now have a need for engineers.Q When applying for jobs, what parts of your resume do you usually try to highlight?A Work experience is really important, especially since Im more senior now. The college part doesnt really matter. Some smaller companies care about personable skills, but Google wants to remove this part of the process because they are afraid people will get hired based on personality. Notes are written then sent to a hiring committee who has never met with the candidate in person.Q Was there anything surprising that stood out to you about the interview process or the office itself?A Even though Google is a giant corporation, they are very transparent. There are no secrets from level to level.Q Were there any questions at Facebook that stood out to you during the interview?A There was more individual flare to the questions at Facebook. The company just doesnt feel as corporate in general.
